KQED, a dynamic and multifaceted public media organization has an opportunity for a highly motivated individual who has experience in public relations. This position will have you writing press materials and organizing photography and clip reel inclusions. Additionally, as our Publicist you will design strategy for assigned projects and oversee all aspects of promotions including advertising, design, publicity, social media and outreach. Specific job duties are listed below.
- Leads publicity, promotional, and advertising campaigns intended to build and maintain awareness of KQED programs and services. Promotes KQED productions, presentations, and platforms to local, national, and trade media, including online media, as well as the broadcasting industry, PBS and NPR member stations, KQED staff, and the general public. Writes press materials (press releases, bios, episode descriptions, articles, program descriptions, boilerplates, etc.) and organizes photography and clip reel inclusions. Arranges receptions, hospitality suites, screenings, press conferences and publicity-related events.
- Designs strategy for assigned projects and oversees all aspect of promotion including advertising, design, publicity, social media, and outreach; Publicist also works to co-ordinate promotion and publicity through internal KQED programs, services and promotional vehicles; Publicist works with other KQED publicists and national partner publicists to determine overall publicity strategy and to coordinate press, social media, and promotion plans.
- Develops and maintains program and subject-specific press lists and media database, including online outlets. Manages press clippings and press clipping database
- Reviews long lead calendar of local and national productions for promotion opportunities.
- Manages monthly press highlights for general promotion of KQED.
- Represents KQED at events with press attendance.
- Works with Human Resources to recruit, hire and manage student interns and volunteers to ensure effective learning experience and to maximize limited resources.
- Supervises online pressroom for KQED’s communications team, updates the biographies and photos of senior staff personnel, and assists in the creative thinking, writing and copy editing of copy for boilerplates, program descriptions, postcards, and other promotional needs.
- Copy edits and approves design requests for KQED design-related activities.
- Writes sections of Annual Report and President’s Report and builds weekly press report
- Files, copies, and handles billing requests, and performs data entry as needed.
- Other essential duties as assigned.
- Two to five years experience in the public relations, advertising, marketing, agency, public broadcasting, media or entertainment industry.
- Strong writing and creative skills required.
- Excellent copy editing skills.
- A healthy interest in design and knowledge of advertising best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and proactively create projects and media opportunities.
- Ability to analyze content and communicate persuasively to staff, media, etc.
- Ability to work under intense pressure and meet deadlines.
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Creative Writing, Advertising, Media, and Film/Television/Radio preferred.
- Experience within and enthusiasm for public media.
