Today, as Public Health Solutions, we use research wherever we can to help illuminate critical public health issues and to design, implement and assess effective methods for preventing disease and improving health in New York City and beyond.<br /><br />Job Description NYC Smokefree (formerly the NYC Coalition for a Smoke-free City) is a program of Public Health Solutions (PHS) whose mission is to end the tobacco epidemic and to promote a tobacco-free society that benefits the health of all New York City residents.<br /><br />The program is primarily funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). The objectives of PHS’s current grant are to 1) reduce the impact of retail tobacco product marketing on youth, 2) educate and advocate for local and state laws, regulations and voluntary policies to reduce tobacco exposure including those that prohibit tobacco use in outdoor areas, increase the percent of households where smoking is prohibited, eliminate pro-tobacco imagery from youth-rated movies and the Internet and, decrease the number of places where tobacco is sold, 3) to develop a corps of youth activities branded as “Reality Check,” and 4) cultivate a wide range of community partners to support these objectives.<br /><br /><br /><br />PHS is seeking a Youth Engagement Coordinator to spearhead the “Reality Check” initiative in addition to carrying out other objectives of the NYS DOH Tobacco Control grant, and related PHS work plan, through outreach, education, advocacy, partnership and communication. The Youth Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for actively recruiting an adequate youth infrastructure and train staff on youth development and engagement strategies. The <strong>Senior Graphic</strong> <strong>Designer</strong> is housed within the <strong>Communications Division</strong> and works as part of a cross-divisional design team at PPFA that includes a <strong>Creative Director</strong> on the <strong>Brand and Marketing</strong>team and staff on other teams who design materials.<br />
<strong>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong><br />
• Design and produce a high volume of graphic design, digital and printed materials, campaign collateral, presentations, merchandise, ads, and other material. Ensure that all material is of very high quality, reflects/advances the organization’s goals, is delivered on time, and adheres to brand guidelines.<br />
• Collaborate with PPFA teams to understand the goals and target audiences for specific initiatives and projects, and develop creative concepts and directions that advance those goals. Take initiative to develop proposals for different types of material, design directions, and creative concepts.<br />
• Manage outside consultants and contract workers as needed, to ensure that they have the information, tools, and direction to produce a large volume of high-quality work, often under tight timeframes.<br />
• In close coordination with <strong>Director of Content Strategy and Production</strong>, proactively identify opportunities for graphic design to strengthen existing activities (for example, generate ideas for how design can advance public awareness campaigns, development efforts, etc. – and how design can be used effectively by a wide range of affiliates).<br />
• Work closely with <strong>Creative Director</strong> to develop a nuanced and practical understanding of PPFA’s brand and visual identity/guidelines. Review design drafts with <strong>Creative Director</strong> to get critical feedback. Provide input into brand direction, along with other staff across teams with design responsibilities.<br />
• As needed, support broader content production efforts (video, multimedia, etc), which may include video editing and post-production, as well as photography and photo editing.<br />
• Complete other tasks and projects as assigned. Ability and willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends, is essential.<br />

4. Maintains PPFA’s Digital Asset Management system. Develops and adjusts systems for organizing/archiving videos and photos. Manually tags videos and photos so they can be easily retrieved. 5. Creates materials as needed, which may include print materials, videos, presentations, briefs, etc.<br />

Responsibilities:<br />

The GSA Impact Fellowship is designed to provide advanced students with practicum experience<br />

related to their academic course of study, with a focus on public service. As a valued member of the<br />
<br />
Southeast Sunbelt Regional Administrator’s team, Fellows will gain direct insight into federal, state<br />
<br />
and local government interaction, as well as public-private and citizen engagement.<br />
<br />
Fellows will directly participate in a variety of activities to support individual programs. Projects<br />
<br />
and activities may include, but are not limited to: participating in high-level interagency meetings;<br />
<br />
coordinating meetings and outreach events with external groups; communicating with governmental<br />
<br />
agencies at local, state and federal levels; researching and analyzing policy-related matters; drafting<br />
<br />
communications materials; researching and/or crafting program strategies; developing messaging on<br />
<br />
a variety of topics; and administrative duties, as needed.<br />
<br />
<br />
GSA is currently accepting applications for select Fellowship positions, which are anticipated to run<br />
<br />
November 1 – November 30 , 2014. Invited Fellows must be available for the full period and able<br />
<br />
to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week. Fellows will serve in a volunteer/non-paid position,<br />
<br />
must consent to a security background investigation upon selection, and must abide by the program<br />
<br />
agreement.<br />

Eligibility:<br />
<br />
• At least half-time graduate student or undergraduate junior or senior in good standing at an<br />
<br />
accredited learning institution through May 2015.<br />
<br />
• A student in a field of study that includes: public administration, business administration,<br />
<br />
communications, public policy, public relations and marketing, environmental management,<br />
<br />
journalism, law, literature, English, and IT.<br />

S/he will bring a strategic perspective to SWAN’s communications activities, working closely with the Executive Director and policy team to lead a comprehensive communications strategy that leverages strengths and focuses national attention on organizational issues. The Communications Director will have media relations expertise and will streamline and implement clear internal processes for managing communications opportunities to advance SWAN’s mission in a measured and coordinated manner. The candidate will have exceptional writing skills, and be able to manage messaging around high-profile national policy initiatives. </span></div>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Build an expanded national media presence through targeted outreach, pitching and relationship building with key journalists.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Identify policy and partnership opportunities that can be leveraged to broaden SWAN’s impact, and build and sustain relationships with policymakers, thought leaders and other key audiences.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Work with program staff to integrate communications, providing sound advice and relating work to the organization’s strategic plan.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Write briefing materials for executive management, press releases and op-eds, preparing talking points and presentations, and supervising interviews with staff.</span></li>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Manage SWAN’s brand identity to enhance public awareness of initiatives and maintain messaging consistency.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Lead expansion of communications channels including increasing our social media presence to broaden SWAN’s reach and engagement with key audiences.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Produce content (e.g., write op-eds, brochures, reports) and manage the development and promotion of print, broadcast and online materials to ensure accuracy and consistency across all communications channels.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Oversee all organizational websites, including SWAN’s main website and Summit website.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Manage robust social media platforms, to include Facebook, Twitter and organizational blogs.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Develop organizational policies regarding staff use of social media.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Attend weekly Directors’ meetings and any other meetings called by the Executive Director.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Secure top-tier media coverage, prepare stakeholders and supervise media during all SWAN press conferences and events, including the Summit on Military Sexual Violence.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Plan and execute media training of select stakeholders.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0px;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Supervise and direct SWAN’s Webmaster and ensure timely and accurate posting of all web content.</span></li>

<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: white; font-size: large;">Content creation for social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and ability to assist clients with developing strategies on these platforms</span></span></li>

<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: white; font-size: large;">Working knowledge of social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc</span></span></li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: white; font-size: large;">Familiarity with industry-appropriate media, bloggers and social media influencers.</span></span></li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: white; font-size: large;">Online community management experience (Facebook page or group administrator, forum administrator, etc.) a plus.</span></span></li>
<li style="margin-left: 15px;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: white; font-size: large;">Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and similar tools.</span></span></li>
