Public Relations Coordinator
This position is responsible for a variety of public relations projects and activities focused on communications, media relations and social media. The Public Relations Coordinator builds a strong image of the organization through media channels and cultivating relationships with individuals and groups throughout the community.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, write and edit content for various projects of media relations and internal communications including, press releases, articles, communication plans, and social media content
- Develop and execute a strategic and synchronized approach to the organization’s social media presence
- Participate in coordinating and attending promotional activities, special events and public relation activities
- Develop and direct strategic initiatives and campaigns across various channels including print, web, social media, broadcast and billboard
- Provide support and assistance during the planning and execution of special events
- Develop promotional materials in support of special events
- Provide media with notices of upcoming newsworthy events
- Work with marketing to develop the communication plan in support of events and promotions
- Edit and adjust content developed for external purposes for use in internal communications
- Work with other departments and AHS staff to meet goals
- May be called upon to make public appearances (including radio, TV, media) and address large groups of people
- Represent the organization through attendance at special events and public appearances
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism or communication field preferred
- Three to five years related experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be able to problem solve/resolve conflicts with good interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of animal welfare issues desirable
- Excellent organizational planning and proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner, orally and in writing
- Excellent presentation skills
- Methodical and detail-oriented with ability to multi-task
- Self-reliant, highly motivated, and positive attitude
- Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license in good standing or have the ability to obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license
- Must be available on weekends and extended hours as necessary to accommodate special event needs and public appearances
- Performs work in an office setting
- Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches
- Frequent walking, standing, bending and stooping
- Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50lbs, with reasonable accommodations
