The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is seeking a media relations intern to support the Media & Membership Communications department as part of the SfN
summer internship program. The intern will provide support for press conference planning and other key projects leading up to SfN's annual meeting. The intern will learn how messages and information are relayed to target audiences through diverse channels and how SfN uses the press to
promote public understanding of developments and issues in neuroscience.
The intern will assist the Media & Member Communications department in the following areas:
- Writing news releases
- Assisting with program issues, event planning, and materials
- Performing research
- Updating database information and monitoring media clips or issues
The intern will also get to learn about ths mission and internal operations of a nonprofit, 503(c) organization while improving their knowledge of media relations and other communications. The intern will also get a close up look at interaction with media and the neuroscience community as they
participate in planning a major international scientific conference.
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and skills:
- At least two years of college coursework completed.
- GPA of at least 3.0
- Strong research skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in Micrsoft Office suite, Word in particular
- Knowledge of media relations, member communications or neuroscience is
preferred
Interns will be asked to work at least 21 hours per week (three full days preferred). Hours will be negotiable.
