Communications Assistant, NARAL Pro-Choice New York, NYC

COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
NARAL Pro-Choice New York/National Institute for Reproductive Health is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join our communications team. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for reproductive rights, who is plugged in to the reproductive rights, health, and justice communities, and who wants to further hone his or her advocacy and communications skills. The Communications Assistant will be a vital member of the communications department, working on the full range of the organization’s work. The Communications Assistant will play a critical role in developing web communications, social media content, print materials, media outreach, online and grassroots campaigns, advocacy efforts, and more. This position reports to the Communications Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years experience in communications, online organizing, reproductive rights, health, and justice, or some combination thereof
  • Knowledge and understanding of core reproductive rights issues and news
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and communicate clearly
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Willingness to be a constructive and collaborative member of the communications team
  • Experience and comfort using a variety of web tools, including multiple CMS platforms, and social media; knowledge of html preferred
  • Knowledge of graphic design and desktop publishing programs, including InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator a plus
  • Ability to think strategically about organization’s advocacy efforts, with special attention to web strategies
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with the full range of communications operations, crossing all departments and programs
  • Write and edit content for organization’s websites and manage social media activity
  • Create new websites when applicable for public education and advocacy campaigns
  • Write compelling email alerts for both activist and general audiences
  • Maintain press lists and follow press activity and news across the movement
  • Contribute to ideas for developing public education and advocacy campaigns, with special attention to web strategies
  • Provide research and writing support to program, advocacy, and communications staff
  • Liaise with staff about new campaigns and communications needs from other departments
  • Assist with administrative duties as needed
