Spring 2012 Public Relations Intern at Time Warner in Washington, DC


INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Interns gain insight into the publicity process while interning in Washington. They strengthen their research and publicity skills while contributing to the network's media relations and occasionally participating in staff and planning meetings. Interns may have the opportunity to accompany publicists to Public Relations (PR) events, interviews, etc. Interns will learn how to compile media contact lists, search for press clips, craft and implement pitches, and support publicists in day-to-day publicity efforts with Washington programming, both proactively and reactively. Interns may learn how to use LexisNexis, media editing programs to check transcripts and assist in basic administrative tasks. Intern’s schedules vary and may include weekend and evening work, depending on breaking news. 

POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES:
Interns have the opportunity to participate in how publicity ideas are developed, how pitches are designed and implemented, the pitch- and release-writing process, and how publicity is built from a strategic network perspective. Assist Washington publicists and support overall efforts of entire CNN PR department, including New York and Atlanta. The DC PR office is heavily focused on the political climate and upcoming special political programming.

QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred. Candidate should be seeking a career in public relations, communications, and/or journalism. The candidate should also have a good understanding of the political process. Should be professional, self-motivated, be able to multitask, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in an environment with short deadlines and quick turnaround projects. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required depending on the news climate.

Students @ Work Internships paid at minimum-wage and structured to last 10 to 12 weeks. Program dates are January 30th – April 20th. Course Credit is available. Resume and Cover Letter are required. Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred). Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL DURING THE TIME OF THIS INTERNSHIP). Students seeking college credit are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Note to International Students: All international students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to your arrival if accepted to the program.
