New Media & Communications Intern at Sustained Dialogue Campus Network in DC


Type: Part-time and full-time positions available. Hours negotiable. STIPEND OF $100- $600 for the full semester.

The Sustained Dialogue Campus Network (SDCN) is seeking enthusiastic, engaged young leaders for an outstanding spring internship opportunity in its Washington, DC office. Ideal candidates will be passionate about civic engagement and youth dialogue. Several internships are available based on interests and skills.

Our mission is to develop everyday leaders who engage differences as strengths to improve campuses, workplaces, and communities. We work primarily with US college campuses, as well as non-profits and corporations. On college campuses, students use Sustained Dialogue to work from dialogue to action to build relationships and transform communities.
As a dynamic, creative, and small nonprofit, SDCN offers a unique internship experience. Interns will work closely with SDCN staff to develop and carry-out projects that contribute to their personal growth and development.

Position Summary: The New Media and Communications Intern will be responsible for creating a strong online presence for the organization in an effort to spread recognition of SDCN within our current network and potential stakeholders. SDCN developed a communications plan in the summer of 2010 that the Intern will help implement. A small stipend, professional development opportunities, and academic credit are available for this internship experience.
Job Responsibilities: - Manage SDCN social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and LinkedIn: - Update regularly and frequently with interesting and relevant content. - Upload various organizational videos and photos. - Manage a professional network on LinkedIn. - Follow SDCN stakeholders through social media to keep organization updated on important activity. - Develop an organizational blog for SDCN. Draft and post news articles and current goings-on of the organization and link to main website. - Renovate and update main website to make more appealing to visitors. - Create press releases, as needed. - Develop and send out e-newsletters, once or twice a month. - Implement a Listening Plan to see and respond to any discussions about SDCN online. - Maintain and assist in tracking website traffic through Google Analytics or similar tool. - Manage Salesforce CRM platform.

Job Qualifications: - Strong personal online presence and familiarity with various social media platforms. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Good time-management skills. - Interest in millennial leadership development, civic engagement, and diversity, inclusion, and conflict resolution. - Independent work style. - Ability to work well with others. - Open to both students and professionals. - Experience with HTML encoding; photo and video editing software; and/or CRM systems is a plus.

Personal Qualities: - Energetic, self-motivated, and a positive attitude. - Able to adapt to changing plans and deadlines. - Ability to multi-task with confidence and be highly organized. - Strong integrity and character. - Strong sense of humor. - Interested in non-profit development.
Start Date and Time Required: Start date in January 2012. Approximately 15 - 25 hours / week (negotiable). Some remote work possible, but office time will be required. Position lasts until December May 2012 or longer, depending upon availability and performance.
