Job Description
The Associate Manager of Communications will be an integral part of the communications team at Hulu. You’ll drive all consumer-facing publicity efforts for Hulu’s content including planning and executing launches from start to finish. You should arrive on day one with a deep rolodex of contacts and established, trust-based relationships with traditional entertainment and consumer facing broadcast, print, and online entertainment media contacts. You will be able to add value to the team by turning those key relationships into immediate results on a project by project basis.


You should have the creative-thinking skills to develop and incorporate “out-of-the-box” communications strategies utilizing social media, events, stunt PR tactics, etc. The role requires a strong degree of multi-tasking, a sharp focus for details, an ability to find humor in chaos and an innate sense of urgency to promptly respond to the team. The Associate Manager of Communications must be clever, thoughtful and tenacious; must have a passion for our industry and the business of communications and a “can-do” attitude. Although the majority of our work is done out of our LA headquarters, you will occasionally travel for press tours and on-location production shoots.




Responsibilities




Day-to-day management of strategy and execution for major content-related communications initiatives

Develop and execute publicity strategy to create buzz for Hulu’s unique content offerings and programming (TV shows, films, exclusive content, original programming)

Publicize all upcoming and current programming through a wide range of consumer, trade and online outlets and sites; organizing and managing press activities on-set during program production

Engage with other communication staff as well as internal cross-functional teams (content, distribution, advertising, customer acquisition, and others) to compose press strategies

Manage relationships and work closely with show creators, talent, production and programming executives

Serve as the point of contact and liaison for external partners (creative talent including celebrities, producers, writers, directors, TV network and studio partners)

Rely on existing strong and trustworthy relationships with broadcast, print, online media contacts; develop strong and trustworthy relationships with new media targets

Perform aggressive and proactive media outreach to entertainment press (print, online, broadcast, social media) covering television, film and entertainment. Build and maintain positive relationships with the press across consumer, online/blogging and entertainment segments

Compose key message points for executive and talent interviews, and create internal and external communication/messaging. This includes media training talent for programming on Hulu

Arrange and oversee on-set visits from members of the press, including videographers and photographers; prepare Hulu spokespersons and creative talent for in-person press briefings

Responsible for writing all programming press materials such as press releases, bios, media alerts, talking points etc. Strong writing skills required

Coordinate all communications between internal and external requests and talent for programming on Hulu

Build relationships with talent and their representation




Minimum Qualifications




Minimum 3 years experience in television communications, public relations or media relations working with and pitching reporters, securing story placement, managing and reporting follow-up and coordinating events

Experience in working with talent publicists, mangers and agents

Proven solid relationships with major press outlets including magazines, consumer print press, consumer TV, online press outlets and blogs and pop culture media

Ability to work well in a fast paced environment under deadlines

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

High judgment, exceptional instincts

Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends on occasion

Must be able to travel as needed for work/production/events

Ability to work under pressure of time constraints

Strong business ethics

BS/BA in Communications or PR-related field
