Progressive New England Democrat is seeking current college students or recent graduates with immediate availability for full or part-time Internships in her Washington, DC office.

The Intern will assist in the day-to-day operations of a DC Congressional office including answering phones, supporting members of staff with constituent work and legislative research, and assisting with administrative activities. In addition the intern will serve as a tour guide of the United States Capitol to constituents visiting Washington DC.

Applicants should have excellent writing ability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. Maine ties ideal, New England ties preferred.

The office of Congressman Jim McDermott (WA-7) is seeking Health Fellows for both the 2011 Fall semester and for Spring/Summer 2012. Duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing regulations and proposed bills, writing memos and attending briefings, and providing assistance to the legislative staff and communications staff. Applicants must have background in health policy including Medicare policy and financing, health insurance, and the Affordable Care Act. The office of Congressman Dan Boren (OK-02) is seeking current college students or recent college graduates for an unpaid Fall Internship.  Duties will include, but are not limited to: answering phones, processing mail, researching legislative issues, drafting correspondence letters to constituents, attending hearings and briefings, and conducting tours of the Capitol. Ohio Congresswoman Betty Sutton is seeking current college students or recent graduates wishing to gain Capitol Hill experience in a fast-paced office for a full-time or part-time Fall Semester Internship. We are seeking motivated, organized, and reliable individuals to assist the legislative and administrative staff with day-to-day duties. Such duties include attending briefings, answering phones, giving Capitol tours, drafting constituent correspondence letters, doing legislative research and various other tasks. The internship is unpaid, but interns will gain valuable Hill and office experience and will have access to many unique Hill opportunities. The New America Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute that invests in new thinkers and new ideas to address the next generation of challenges facing the United States, is seeking a media-savvy self-starter to intern in the Media & Communications Department.
This is an unpaid position, and can be either part- or full-time. Candidates should be either enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program in communications, journalism or a similar field. Opportunities are available immediately for the fall semester.
Responsibilities
·         Monitoring press coverage of New America staff, fellows, programs and initiatives – both mainstream media and the social web
·         Drafting press releases
·         Updating and monitoring New America's social web presence on Twitter and Facebook
·         Assisting with list-building and contact management
·         Short research and writing projects
·         Light administrative and event staffing duties as needed
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
·         A keen interest in both public policy and media;
·         Proven research, editing, and writing skills;
·         Excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines;
·         Knowledge of social media practices
·         Experience with blogging, podcasting, and other online publishing; and
·         The composure and professional demeanor to interact with all levels of the public policy community
