Congressman G. K. Butterfield’s (D-NC) Washington, D.C. office seeks a full or part-time UNPAID intern who has immediate availability and can work during the fall semester. Internship positions are open to qualified college students or recent graduates and are a wonderful opportunity for hands-on experience in a Congressional Office.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, meeting and greeting visitors, answering constituent phone calls, letters, emails, and faxes, attending legislative hearings and meeting and drafting memos for staff, researching policy issues and drafting correspondence on diverse topics, and providing support and assistance to the legislative staff.

The Washington, DC office of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) is offering unpaid internship opportunities beginning in August. First-hand experience in her congressional office will provide interns with an unparalleled knowledge and understanding of the development of public policy and governmental affairs.
It will also offer a unique insight into the legislative process and parliamentary procedure, as she is Ranking Member of the Committee on Rules. The Rules Committee determines the rules of debate for nearly all major legislation before it can be considered on the House Floor.
Intern responsibilities include drafting letters to constituents, attending committee hearings, writing summary briefs, researching various issues for the legislative staff and assisting with office duties, including answering phones and sorting mail. Interns are an integral part of the team and are given substantial opportunities to learn and grow in a fast-paced and active office.

Fall Interns – Full/Part-Time

The Office of Representative Judy Chu seeks motivated full- or part-time unpaid interns for Fall 2011 (Mid-August to Early December) in Washington, D.C. This is an ideal internship for candidates interested in learning about the legislative process, passionate about serving a diverse constituency, and committed to public service. Responsibilities include leading and scheduling Capitol tours, drafting constituent letters, conducting legislative research, answering incoming calls, running flag requests, tracking bills, sorting mail, and contributing to daily office operations. Ideal candidates are mature, detail-oriented, and motivated. Candidates should also possess an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines, work well with others, and have a good sense of humor. Bilingual Spanish and Mandarin speakers are encouraged to apply.

Democratic member seeks interns for the fall 2011 semester.

Applicants should be motivated, organized, and reliable individuals to assist with the legislative and administrative needs of the staff. Such duties include attending briefings, answering phones, drafting constituent correspondence letters, doing legislative research, giving tours of the Capitol, and various other tasks. Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Word with strong writing skills. Colorado connections preferable. Applicants must be a currently enrolled student in an academic program.

Candidates must have strong writing skills, the ability to conduct extensive research, and a high level of professionalism.
