Legislative and Policy Internships

INTERNSHIPS:

Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-01) is looking for outstanding intern
candidates to start immediately. Applicants should possess an interest in
the legislative process, should be highly organized with strong attention to
deal, and have strong written and verbal communications skills. Intern
responsibilities include but are not limited to attending briefings,
answering the phones, drafting and responding to constituent letters,
assisting in research, giving tours of the Capitol, and various other
administrative tasks. Applications will be accepted for both full-time and

Duties include drafting press releases and statements, conducting research, attending briefings/hearings, and other basic administrative responsibilities.The ideal candidate should be personable, energetic, and have a passion for politics. SCHEDULING INTERNS - Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand’s Washington DC office seeks highly-motivated and dedicated individuals to serve as scheduling interns for winter and spring 2010. The scheduling intern works directly with the Senator’s scheduling team and senior staff to manage all event, meeting, and speaking requests submitted to our office. The ideal candidate will have an interest in government and public service, as well as an efficient work ethic, strict attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Candidates for the winter term should be able to begin interning immediately; candidates for the spring term should be able to begin interning in January. These positions provide exposure to the legislative process, while developing a strong understanding of how a congressional office operates. Intern responsibilities, include but not limited to, answering phones, leading tours, organizing constituent mail and the potential to assist legislative staff with research on a variety of issues. Interns will be encouraged to attend hearings and briefings to enhance their experience on Capitol Hill. Midwestern ties are preferred. Part-time interns will also be considered but candidates with full-time availability will be given preference. Responsibilities include a range of legislative and administrative work, including answering phones, managing incoming and outgoing mail, attending hearings and briefings, and writing research memos for LCs and LAs.
