Publicist
Sierra Club
San Francisco, CA
The Sierra Club seeks a full time publicist to help save the planet and make sure everyone on it knows about the awesome work being done by America's largest and most effective environmental organization. The ideal candidate is someone who won't take no for an answer -- but who knows the line between effective persuasion and being a pain. This person is a creative problem solver and entrepreneurial by nature. Should be well-connected across the ever-changing world of national media, from network television, newspapers, and magazines to social networks, the web, and live events. A consummate networker with a passion for environmental issues and a keen eye for a good story, this candidate always goes beyond the traditional press release or media pitch and is eager to routinely conjure up visionary projects to help promote the Sierra Club brand, particularly to young and diverse audiences.
The publicist works with other organizations and companies to develop promotional partnerships and oversees publicity for the Club's award-winning Sierra magazine, Sierra Club Books, Sierra Club Productions and other organizational enterprises. Applicants should have metrics-based evidence of having created highly successful promotions and a strong record of results-oriented project management. Strong writing skills, a collaborative spirit, and solid sense of humor are important. Experience with non-profit organizations is a plus; professionalism, devotion to excellence and creative brilliance a must. Job is located in either San Francisco or New York.

-- 3+ years of demonstrated success in media relations, journalism, public outreach or related field.
-- Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or related field or combination of education and experience.
