Press Intern, Congressman John Carney (D-DE), Washington DC

Congressman John Carney (D-DE) seeks press interns to work closely with the communications director to develop and implement the Congressman’s communications plan.

The internship is in the Washington office for the Spring 2011 semester, full or part-time, with a minimum of 15 hours per week.

Duties include, but are not limited to: drafting press releases, statements, e-newsletters, background documents, constituent letters and fact sheets; social media outreach; proofreading and editing; maintaining press lists; conducting research; updating the website; attending briefings/hearings; and basic administrative responsibilities, including answering phones and leading Capitol tours. The ideal candidate should be passionate about government, politics and media. Qualifications include strong writing and communication skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of the media landscape. Being able to work well under pressure and deadlines is imperative. Applicants should learn quickly and take initiative.

The internship is an excellent opportunity to gain substantive communications and press experience. Candidates from Delaware are encouraged to apply.
