Communications Intern, The Council of the Great City Schools (D.C.)

Communications Intern

The Council of the Great City Schools is looking for a Communications
Intern to assist the Council's busy, two-person communications department. The Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of public education in the nation's cities. Composed of 64
large city school districts, its mission is to promote the cause of urban schools through legislation, research and media relations. The organization is located in downtown Washington, D.C., and is convenient
to a Metro station. 

Position Description 

The Communications Internship will provide a student with hands-on experience and insight into the role the Council's communications department plays in improving public confidence in, commitment to, and
support of urban public schools and schoolchildren.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

* Write news and feature stories for the Council's award-winning monthly newsletter, the Urban Educator.
* Assist in designing the annual fall conference program and other materials related to the conference 
* Perform basic administrative tasks such as mailings, maintaining the Council's publication list, and preparing 
materials for distribution, such as press releases.

Requirements 

* Must be working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field 
* Proficient in Adobe InDesign 
* Possess strong written and oral communications skills
* Must be able to work between 9-20 hours per week

Compensation
The Communications Internship is a paid internship of $9 per hour for an undergraduate student and $10 per hour for a graduate student. 

Internship can be developed for a 3-4 month period, an academic quarter, an academic semester or for a full year.
