Intern Title: Marketing & Communications Intern
Classification: Part‐time, Unpaid
Reports to: Marketing and PR Coordinator
Start/End Dates: Spring 2010 Semester, Specific Dates/Times Flexible
Position Overview:
The Marketing and Communications Intern will provide support to Young Audiences’ Marketing and PR Coordinator and the Development and Marketing Department as a whole. Intern will perform a wide range of marketing and communications tasks that will help him/her gain experience in the field while gaining a better understanding of the nonprofit world.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Assists in drafting written materials, including marketing collateral, press releases, Web site
content and e‐mail blast content
• Assists in the creation and distribution of newsletters, e‐newsletters, the 2010‐2011 program
guide and other promotional materials
• Helps plan and coordinate logistics for special events and publicizes those events externally
• Represents Young Audiences at community events alongside staff and volunteers
• Manages organization’s mailing lists and media lists
• Supports the Spring Appeal campaign
• Coordinates internal staff communications as directed
• Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
• Applicant must be enrolled as a full‐time undergraduate student at a local university or college
• Pursuing a degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or
related field preferred
• Must be pursuing this internship for credit through college or university
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Attention to detail and great interpersonal/organizational skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and work cooperatively with other YA staff and volunteers
• Positive and enthusiastic attitude
• Some standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and light lifting (up to 10
pounds) is needed occasionally.
