Manager of Communications, SEO Scholars, NYC (Manhattan)

SEO Scholars seeks Manager  of Communications
Salary: 40K-45K (depending on experience) plus health benefits.
Where:  Offices in downtown Manhattan.

SEO Scholars, a New York based non-profit, provides supplemental education and counseling to motivated low-income public school students in New York City and San Francisco The program, which begins in 9th grade and lasts for eight years, ensures that each SEO Scholar is academically prepared for college, is admitted to a competitive institutions with ample financial aid, and graduates from college on time and with a strong GPA. 

Since 2006, 500 students have gone through the program-- and graduated from colleges such as Smith, Occidental, Fordham, NYU, Harvard and Trinity. 

SEO Scholars Manager of Communications responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Reaching out vigorously  to reporters and members of the print, electronic and web-based media; conducting briefings with members of the media on the SEO Scholars program.

Working with external contractors who are doing the same. 

Handling media inquiries and connecting reporters with staff of the SEO Scholars program in NY and SF.

Working with a graphic designer and photographer to maintain the updated website (includes curating, writing, copy-editing and selecting photographs.) 

Working with  SEO staff on Opportunity Knocks, a twice-a-year newsletter read by 6000 potential donors.

Maintaining SEO Scholars alums Facebook page.

Planning and executing new features on SEO Scholars website as needed.

Developing and maintaining SEO Scholars collateral material including fact sheets and recruitment flyers. 

Conceiving, writing content and supervising the production of an electronic SEO Scholars annual report. 

Supervising freelance photographers and videographer at various SEO Scholars events. 

Ensuring all stakeholders use SEO Scholars logo and tag line with fidelity. 

Coming up with new ways to tell the SEO Scholars story. 

The ideal candidate will be a creative, precise and fluid writer who is familiar with the current debates around public education and is mindful of the challenges that face low- income students.  The ability to bring projects to completion on time and on budget is required.  Perfect grammar, an appreciation of good design and rapt attention to detail are a must. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to work with more experienced graphics, video and photographic, and communications professionals.
