Communications Coordinator, National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Washington, D.C.


The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) is an association of more than 600 community-based organizations that promotes access to basic banking services, including credit and savings, to create and sustain affordable housing, job development, and vibrant communities for America’s working families. Members include community reinvestment organizations, community development corporations, local and state government agencies, faith-based institutions, community organizing groups, civil rights organizations, minority- and women-owned business associations, community development financial institutions, and local and social service providers from across the nation.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Communications Coordinator assists the Director of Communications on comprehensive organizational communications, including print and broadcast media, web and social media, publications and interpersonal communication.   The Communications Coordinator must thrive in a fast paced environment with limited supervision, and quickly comprehend and act on changing priorities when necessary. The Communications Coordinator must have high attention to detail, and ability to write both quickly and well.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Writing and Editing
*Coordinates editorial process and/or edits publications, including but not limited to fact sheets, issue briefs, white papers, research reports, and Congressional testimony. 
*Conceptualizes and writes press releases, talking points, web site entries, social media and blog posts.
*Drafts newsletter articles and assists with the coordination of the member e-newsletter
News Coordination
*Coordinates or generates distribution of daily press clips, and weekly press update to members
*Pitches Print, Radio and TV media, organizes press calls and meetings.
*Builds and maintains media lists and relationships, proactively tracking changes in the news media
*Tracks media coverage and measures growth and effectiveness
*Receives incoming press requests and coordinates interview schedules
Marketing and Events
*Keeps the social media and web site updated with press clips, news and information, working closely with other staff.
*Coordinates distribution of marketing and other organizational materials at public events. 
*Promotes speaking engagements and public appearances of the President & CEO and other staff
*Assists in the marketing and outreach for events, especially the annual conference.
Internal Responsibilities
*Maintains internal archives (electronic and paper) of research, press clips, policy papers and other information.
*
Serves as administrative liaison for the department, attending internal meetings and coordinating internal reports, supply orders, schedules meetings, maintains vendor database, submits invoices, etc.
*Improves internal communications, through proactive management of internal email lists, speaking/events calendars, internal emails, etc
*Conducts weekly review of communications calendar, presents opportunities/obligations at weekly staff meetings.
*Provides meeting and logistical support for department, including scheduling, room reservation, note taking, etc.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Proactively supports and enforces brand and communications standards and instructs staff as appropriate.
*Minor publishing and layout, as needed.
*Other duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES:
  • Superior interpersonal communications, with ability and enthusiasm to build positive internal and external relationships.
  • Superior writing, editing and oral communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent initiative and proactive leadership.
  • Excellent abilities with Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Experience with databases and/or Customer Relationship Management systems (CRM) a plus
  • Some experience with InDesign and Photoshop a plus.
  • Some experience with Content Management Systems (CMS), such as Joomla, and/or HTML or CSS a plus.
 JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College graduate or relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years experience in communications or policy fields
