Spring 2012 Communications Intern, Southwest Airlines, Dallas (deadline: DEADLINE 10/03/2011)

Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support communication for Southwest's community, citizenship, and sustainability/green initiatives including communication planning and content development.

Provide written content for internal and external channels, including Twitter, Facebook, Spirit Magazine, press releases, Southwest.com, BlogSouthwest.com, and SWALife - Southwest's intranet site.

Collaborate with various work groups to develop effective external communication plans regarding Southwest's corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Assist with Southwest Airlines community-related projects and events, including volunteer projects, green initiatives, cause marketing, industry bench marking, and charitable giving.

Be familiar with Southwest's charitable donation policies to communicate with Customers and nonprofit organizations regarding their donation requests.

Support team data entry needs and fulfillment.

Minimum Requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

Progress towards degree with major/minor in Public Relations, Corporate/Mass Communications, Community Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, or Business degree required.

Minimum junior status or above (60+ credits).

To be eligible must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours).

Maintained 3.0 or above cumulative GPA.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:

Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as a part of a Team.

Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines.

Ability to manage time and multiple tasks effectively.

Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

EXPERIENCE:

Part-time jobs or previous internships preferred.

Participation in trade/industry organizations, community involvement, and/or school clubs preferred.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, specifically PowerPoint and Word.

Proficient usage in Social Media.

Ability to create multimedia PowerPoint presentations (including charts and video.)
